Thank God i did pretty well. i jump a couple of grades for chem and maths, and i am surprised that my physics marks bettered that of the midyears, considering that this physics paper was tough.
The downsides: my GP got an S (for satisfactory-not) and my econs grade deproved.
oh and there's chinese as well. but forget about that. the bigger exam is in less than 20 days time and yes, i will redeem myself!
dang.
otherwise, it has been quite a rewarding last 2 months. I really struggled to get myself into the mood of studying, and i think the study "outing" to changi airport with some 4k'07 guys really kickstarted everything. it seems awkward though to see each other studying different sets of notes now, when we used to share the same ones last year. But anyway, the content is very much the same, just that vj notes lack depth as compared to tj's. what can i do? welcome to "independent learning".
i just hope that i won't lose this fire in me come 2009. i want to be more focused and erm, less playful i guess? haha. there's this lazy bum in me and i gotta kick it out. seems that this guy started to creep into me ever since o levels ended. haha. it was all play and no work for months after o's(and that makes jack - or shawn - a dumb boy). nah, i dun wanna be dumb. haha. really gotta find that momentum going that kept me through the entire o level period last year. somehow, i find that i lack that determination and discipline this year. maybe its jc life? its more liberal and you take charge of your learning. So with so many distractions around and you lose your self-control, your "self" gets "controlled" by the lazy bum residing in you. it just goes on from there and there u have a domino effect. so its easy to understand why midyrs was such a disaster. there was nothing to stop the dominos from falling. luckily i found my sec4 buddies and changi airport. haha. and maybe, the shock from midyears as well (i got ACCDEE then).

i really pray that 2009 will be a better year. free from complacency, mischieve(okay maybe a little is fine), and laziness (but definitely this wont be the case. haha. i WILL strive towards it though, just like how perfect competition is desired but never exists. hehe)

nil sine labour!

Finally i am on the keyboard once again. hmmm... i have nothing much to rant, so i guess that's why i have been so quiet on the blogging scene. Well, its been a really hectic term 2 and june hols for me though, and now term 3 has started even before we can say "take a break".

There is something to cheer about though, although i think the word "cheer" is a bit of an overstatement. VJ had home-based learning today, and guess what, the server crashed - just before GP! whee! not that i hate GP, but the thought of sitting in front of the computer screen with the keyboard as your only means of communication and the speaker, from which a voice reminiscent of that metallic being in i-Robot(maybe not to that extent), the only "friend" who talks to you, are definitely incentives to keep one away from the screen of death. Sounds very much like solitary confinement, albeit in the virtual world though. What a right time for the system to fail. Technological glitches. Can never rely too much on them. That's why i never save important data solely on internet file storage sites, and take much trouble to ensure that the HIGHLY important ones are backed up on at least 3 memory devices. Kiasu? Nah. It's called playing safe.

Before i end off, i would like to share one statement which really intrigued me. That of my civics tutor to be exact. "Every article you read influences you in a certain way. So it is essential taht you install a firewall around you to block out the negative influences"
Sounds like the cyberworld has set VJ all gaga over it.

heyz! beena week of mixed emotions for me. Yes i did exceedingly well for my o levels. haha. After 1 and a half years of drought, my a1 english grade finally came back to me! okay, i admit. I actually did feel like shedding tears of joy. I could feel my eyes moisten, especially when i talked to the teachers. The feeling ain't something that can be put into words so easily. I cant tell how grateful i am to them for their patience, guidance etc. Couldnt bring myself to tell them though. Haha. Afraid that i would really shed tears when i speak those words. haha. But on the other hand, i sympathise with those who failed to make the mark. The two different moods inthe hall were so contrasting. Imagine the awkwardness to see one group of people rejoicing, while another downright dejected. The two pictures just didnt match. So I kept my mouth shut to prevent myself from falling into the former category. But i cant help but feel a tinge of sadness to hear of people who might not or cannot make the grade to enter a certain jc, esp vjc. haha. My heart really went out to the 2 other scouts in vjc. I dunno. Seems like there's a bond between us after 4 years through thick and thin. At least, i comfort myself in the knowledge that they arent so far off to be left out of contention for a spot in vj. And there's another friend in janson, whom i've just got to know more about since he's in the same class as me, 08S56! Now it seems like i gonna lose this friend, just when i've found one in him. Haiz. Life is indeed so unpredictable. One moment, you may be up high and flying. And the next moment, who knows, you might be the one in a slump.

But one thing really. I gotta thank God for all i have. He really blesses in abundance really. All those prayers, He answers them. I'll always remember this phrase "You do your best, God will do the rest"!

Pulau Ubin was great fun! Went exploring every nook and cranny in the island. okay, maybe not EVERY.The trip took place on the friday one week ago. i think the most enjoyable part of this trip, and the part that gave me the most sense of accomplishment, was conquering the highest point on that off-shore island - bukit puaka. It stands at 75m. ehhh isnt that shorter than bukit timah hill??? haha yea indeed. Going up isnt though, neither was coming down. There werent any signs leading up to the top, coz the authorities didnt want any trouble, considering the fact that there werent any safety barriers up there. Had to take a hike through some forested area before we reached the peak. The path was narrow, had many branches and bushes sticking out in a sporadic order along a path which was "walked out by man"(direct translation from the chinese phrase here) Chiahong led us up along the same route he did with OBS. I led them down, but i must say that the path looked much different from when wee went up. I hadnt noticed the other paths joining ours when journeying up, but whowwww when i saw them on the way down, i sort of got a little confused. but a little common sense here and there got us to where our bikes were. haha... i thought chiahong was behind taking a video of the hike down. In the end, no video, coz he forgot. haiz... nvm... haha... what i wanted was to get the experience trekking up the hill, and down it. The feeling upon reaching the top was great man. unbelievable. you see the view from atop, and you look backat the route that took you up, and you cant help but smile and say quietly to yourself "yea i made it!". This accomplishment might be dwarfed upon mentioning the "bigshots" of mountaineering in the region, like mount ophir and such, but its great to walk away from this island with something to show for, and something that is one of the few places left in singapore for adventurers to seek some thrill at. that wasnt the only highlight of course, but it was the best of them all. here are some pics from the trip. cant upload some of them. server prob. so here're the other "some".

BIG BIG Matches coming up tonight!!!!!! Closer friends would know how badly i did for my prelims compre paper. Yeah, my curse. Got a c5 or something. I was real worried at that time. What would happen to my L1R5? I didnt want some astronomical number, just because of one silly paper(okay maybe not "astronomical"). I went home, calculated the probability that my paper1 could salvage me, and concluded that a B3 would be a very good score for me at the end of the day. I prayed real hard about it: "God, give me a B3 for english and i will be very contented, but if its possible, an a2. But i am not asking for much." okay i admit i was a little greedy to ask for an a2. haha. I was fully prepared to settle for a b3, and i was hoping very hard that i could get one, coz both my cvompo and letter writing had to score high marks in order for it to come to fruition. Guess what! In the end, I got an a2! and it wasnt 70. Nor 71, or 72. I got a nice, beautiful number. 74.0. Friends around me likened it to a revival. Serious. REVIVAL. I rose up from nowhere. God blesses in abundance, and i really wanna thank Him for all that He has given, and all that He has planned. The a2 was enough to get me into my choice jc. Any lesser and i think i would have to "force" my way in. He knew right from the start what was in store. I know it wasnt my ability that brought me through. I knew i didnt write as well as i did during the myes. But the paper1 even bettered what i got for myes. Thank you, oh Lord. Now, one last hurdle.... The o levels!!! I pray that God you'll help me! Gotta get it off my chest. Haha.

Okay, let's turn our frustrations on the current "price hike frenzy". Taxi fares are the lastest to go up. You know one thing about these price hikes in singapore? They defy the law of physics. They have rewritten it, in actual fact. Read this:

What goes up NEVER comes down

Geez... sounds scary. The sky wont be the limit at this rate. Maybe outer space would. However, the taxi fare adjustments arent as SCARY as some put it to be. the meter will NOT jump by a dollar every few seconds, nor will your current fare from tampines to tanah merah double, or treble as some absurd nincompoops would say.

Read the table below and do your maths(click on the link). The result will show that new taxi fares will not differ substantially from the current pricing, that is for the off-peak hours only. During the peak hours, and coupled with the prospect of traffic jams during those times, i think the wise ones will stay away from cabs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxicabs_of_Singapore#Fares

Despite efforts by the authorities to make various parts of singapore more accesible via buses and mrts, this very fact will still remain. Taxis are indispensible. Think about it. With the imminent opening of the circle line, getting from tanah merah to sengkang by mrt will definitely take up less of your time as compared to the current EW-NEL line route. However, the hassle of buses and trains remains. You have got to make a total of 2 transfers, the first being at paya lebar mrt, and then at serangoon, in order to arrive at your destination. All the walking and waiting one has got to go through will be undoubtedly be frustrating, especially for those in a rush. But that will not be the end of your misery. If your ultimate destination is say, rivervale mall, woah, then you have got to consider more waiting, and walking, when you transfer to the LRT!!!

Boycott the taxis??? No way! Not even with the opening of the downtown line in 2018. Consider the amount of sweat and mental stress you gotta go through getting from one place to another on mrt and buses. This of course mainly applies to those "racing against the clock". Students like us, who have got all the time in the world wont mind the extra bit of walking and waiting (and maybe exploring) just to reach rivervale mall. (But why in the world would we want to go there anyway??? Even orchard's less of a hassle to get to). Moreover, its a flat fare of $0.40 we are talking about. Hopefully it stays this way. One thing i have gotta admit though, mrt has indeed made life much easier for students. Working adults? maybe. Rushing adults? errmmm, not so. Dont blame me for talking rich, but sometimes it makes more practical sense to hop onto a cab and sacrifice those pieces of paper residing in your wallet, just for that extra bit of comfort, convenience and yes, a peace of mind.

C'mon. Let's accept it. This is Singapore, a fine city of fine dining experiences, fine scenary, and of course fine prices. Without occasional hikes, where would all the "finess" go to. Of course i am one disgruntled singaporean whenever i hear of such price hikes. Haiz, but what to do? Singapore mah. Everyone need to tam jiat(earn a living). Taxi drivers need their ricebowls. Bakeries need theirs too. Office workers need theirs(of course from the bonuses when companies do well, and companies do well thanks to endless splurging by you-know-who). Its a cycle. And when everything goes up, we find that everything in Singapore evens out, and becomes more balanced. You pay more, I pay more, and in return we get paid more. I dont see much difference. Hopefully my foresight isnt wrong.

goodness! O's are over!!! It's a great feeling, to think that u have been slogging it out for the past couple of months for this very day to come. Indeed, absence makes the heart grows fonder. "Absence" here of course refers to the lack of freedom.

Just came back from chalet yesterday morning. It was fantastic. A whole 4 days, 3 nights at fairy point, changi. Did lots of things there. Night cycling on the first night was shiok man! went from changi to east coast and back again. The pic on the left was taken at east coast. Kayaking on day2 was fun, splashing water at each other. It's been approximately 2 years since i last kayakED. hahas. Surprisingly, the moment i got hold of the paddle, my instincts just led me along. The skill has not left me after all these years. Didnt bring me cert there, so i had to make do with the sit-on-top kayak which i shared with samuel, and erm... shuhan for the last few minutes. she just sat there lah! maybe a small fee would have done justice to the service i gave. hahas. At least samuel was better. he acted as a human shield for me, otherwise i think i woukld have been soaked thru before half an hour was even gone. Thanks mate, i know it was hard on you. haha. BBQ on the 2nd night as well. dang... burnt my finger. Not the first time though, and it wasnt as bad as previous occasions.

3rd day, most of them stayed in the chalet. or in fact, should i say ALL except for a few guys. Couldnt stand the four walls in there, so i went out to changi village with jason, jeremy, joel and kewei. Had lunch there, and then rented bikes at $6 for 3 hrs. Reasonable. Very. Went to the old changi hospital to do some exploring. CCTVs were everywhere so we didnt dare to go in. Stayed outside and didnt even realise we were acting as food for the mosquitos until jason spotted them on his legs. haha. Dinner time! we wanted to go to ubin for fried rice, but there werent anybody else at the jetty to share the boat with us. In the end, we went to some restaurant at changi village, and had ginger crab, butter prawns, cockles, clams, sambal sotong, and kangkong. the entire bill came up to $102.10. 3 of us paid a combined total of $30, while jason settled the rest. His treat. hahas. great meal.

Ok... enough of the chalet. Been hooked onto a couple of songs recently. "Child in Time" by deep purple, and some by scorpions. Their latest song "humanity" is simply fantastic. I've finally decided to come out of hibernation and speak my mind... hahaha... Handover on the 7th July 2007, nice date but what unkind weather... we met at 7am(another nice number), and that's for the sec4s... Left home a lil' late, around 6.20... waited for the bus super long, and then i missed the train at paya lebar... took a cab up to sch fr tanah merah mrt and finally reached at 7.15 only to realise that i was not the only one who's late... shld have taken my time... hahaha...

I won't go through the detailsof that very day, but to sum it all up, it was bitersweet. Just a teeny weeny tinge of sweetness to go with a cup of Kopi-O... haha... It marked the end of 3.5 years in scouts, but it should have been a big hurrah for me when i was in sec1... after going through the scouting system for so many years, i've somewhat adapted to the lifestyle and the hitches and glitches along the way... My final 1.5 years would be considered as my most memorable.. June Camp'06 would be my most memorable camp - a big thanks to Javier and Jun Zhi for making it an event that would go down as one of my more treasured moments in scouting. U guys were fantastic! That done, PLC 06-07 came next... I wasn't expecting the responsibilities that would come with my new posts - Assnt Programme Head, NYAA Coordinator, Treasurer... Firstly, i started out knowing almost nothing about what i was to do... Only a faint knowledge of their jobscope flickered in my mind every now and then... The seniors(at least... most) then did not brief us on what to expect from our posts... Secondly, I had a huge challenge ahead of me... To turn around the state of our nyaa progress over the past years and set the bearings right for the future batches to come... I set the goals in mind for myself... Knew it was not gonna be easy with only the nyaa booklets as a guide... How are reports written? How are the recod booklets supposed to be filled in? When are the submission dates? How am I to coordinate the progress of 2 batches(sec3s and 4s) on all 4 categories of the award scheme? and so on... The teacher-in-charge didnt know much as well, so i guessed i had to start form the scratch...

June'06 - August '06
- made many call to nyaa asking a series of questions
- did research on the various organisations conducting outdoor activities(for nyaa and external programme activities) ; finally found Sea Sports Club, which offered the "best deal" out of all those i've checked out... that's why u sec2s and sec3s had the chance to go kayaking...
- Collection of DONATION DRAW BOOKLTS!!! It was to be the first and last assignment of my plc term... It was very chaotic... Had a hard time chasing all those who didnt hand in their booklets on time... so i wish jin meng good luck this year(heed my advice on having more than a single collection date, k?)
- Cleaned up the den, much to the anger of mr wong ciyi who said that it was all unnecessary(how wrong, coz he will realise that my help would be much needed in the months to come, as chaos started to unfold in the den as time progressed)

September '06
- Kayaking course for u juniors! Finally, after all the delays due to ur very MESSY handwriting, ur applicatrions were finally approved... after i had sat inside the Sea Sports Club office for more than an hour trying to decipher those "alien" lettering on the application forms and convincing the guy that u boys were fit to go for the course... haha... ask javier, coz he was there with me!

October '06
- Submitted the first batch of nyaa applications to mr ong so he could send it to NYAA HQ
- Break for exams;)

November '06
- Kudos to Zhanyi and Ciyi for the successful planning of the November Camp
- Organised the CIP@Library activites to complete the service part of nyaa...
- My first go at managing accounts for camps; what goes in and what goes out...

December '06
- Involved in the planning of Farewell Dinner, along with a few others, namely ciyi, peter, and i think junle... dun blame me if i missed out any others... haha
- Went for our first "Keep Fit, Stay Trim" activity at Tampines Sports complex playing badminton and going for swimming, with the completion of the physical recreation part of nyaa initially on mind

January '07
- Started planning for Jobweek'07
- Took on the task of designing a new PT Kit

February '07
- First batch of nyaa booklets finally submitted to nyaa hq following delays on mr ong's side
Finally, this month was less busy!

March '07
- JOBWEEK! Met our quota of 12K plus! Good job guys!
- Finalised the T-Shirt design after around 20 drafts and many hours spent
- T-Shirts arrive on 23rd March
- 2nd batch of nyaa booklets submitted(Sec2s)

April '07
- Ordered another 9 small size T-Shirts initially for the sec1s as the medium seemed too big for them

Another month that's less hectic!

May'07 - June '07
- Had plans to organise a night cycling epedition for sec3s( sorry, sec2s and 1s are a little young for this... hehe)
- Plans scrapped due to time constraints(sec3s had to plan for ur june camp survival, while sec4s had to plan how u all falter!)
- Went to Pulau Ubin thrice in 9 days till i could cycle over the whole island without refering to the map!
- JUNE CAMP!
- handover

1 year is indeed a very short timeframe to learn from ur mistakes and improve on them.. so what we can do now is to tell u Sec3s the obstacles ahead and to give u all a springboard to further the progress of the troop as a whole, making sure u all know what is expected in the months to come...
A couple of advice:
1) Don't work strictly within the boundaries of ur jobscope; help each other out as much as possible because u can avert possible mistakes ith more brains combined together
2) Don't be an overly-dominant figure in ur plc. Give every one a chance to speak their mind and dun expect everything to go in ur favour all the time. This will avoid possible conflicts from arising within the plc itself
3) Dun NATO - No Action, Talk Only

I will miss u guys though... but never mind it won't be for long... i am 99% bent on joining ventures... the remaining 1% that could change things would be any unforseen circumstances that may arise... ahaha... so thank you for all the support u've given guys! Good Luck and keep the falcon flag flying!!!

Thought of sharing some joy with all of you. AHS Falcon Scouts got 3 GOLDS in the National Pioneering Competition!!! Events are logging, pioneering skills and catapult.

For logging, Kenan "steamrolled" the other competitors, nabbing a time of 22s, whilst the rest were half a minute behind. The objective was to chop a log into 2 using an axe. Haha. And Shih Ying, his partner, just had to stand and watch him chop his way to victory. He didn't even have to takeover!

The catapult event win is regarded by me as the funniest. Guppy was in charge, and due to some fault in the building of the catapult structure, its shot tend to go towards the left. Just as no one would have imagined, the waterbomb released by the catapult went into the crowd, and smacked into the back of this seemingly oblivious person. Of course, he made his displeasure known with some gestures, non-offensive ones though. The second shot was equally, or if not more comical. Waterbomb released, some nudging here and there in the crowd to warn other of impending danger, retreat, and poof! right into a bag forgotten by its owner in the midst of all the "chaos". Now for the third. Pull, nice cruise through the air, equally beautiful descend, and dud... After all the efforts by the crowd to scram, the waterbomb pulled off its final trick of the day to cap an amusing victory for the Falcons! We pulled our way to first place with a distance of 43.15m, way ahead of second place's 37.1m and third's 36.7m.

The pioneering skills team worried me the most. Not because they lacked the skills. In actual fact, I had quite a lot of confidence in their abilities. Rather, they were under the sweltering hot sun for the longest time(from 11am to 4.30pm), and most of them were dying due to the heat. Our water supply wasn't enough to sustain all the teams we sent in(5 in fact), hence, being in charge of logistics, i had to run up and down bishan park filling up water containers and buying water for them. Fortunately, i had junle to do this job with me. Haha. I spent the entire day getting rations for the troop, going from place to place doing so. And bishan park is no ordinary neighbourhood park. It was immense!

All the sufferings aside, I want to congratulate all participants for putting in so much time and effort in their preparation for that day, and thank all who turned up for giving your support in the many areas we needed help! Thank you!

A mini-catapult by another school(i find this design quite nice, but it couldn't shoot far)

A tower and bridge by other schools(we didn't participate in these 2 events)

I'm back... finally! It's been more than 2 weks since i set foot in the compounds of one of Singapore's most famous landmarks, known not only for it's sheer size, but also for being the birth place of the Kallang Roar. Yup, the National Stadium! I've been there a couple of times before, but not in a setting as hyped up as it was on the 25th January. And there are many good reasons why Kallang is so famous.
#1 The Kallang Roar
The sheer magnitude of the roar leaves the stadium rumbling with each go. And with the passing of each one, it leaves you with an appetite for more..... yum yum

#2 The Kallang Wave
Before it even comes within close range of you, you can already sense its presence. A supersonic surge and there you go! A part of this wave and a part of history. Because this wave never fails to come out of hibernation when a major event comes knocking, and all the more so on a stage such as the Asean Football Championship Final. For 32 years it had called Kallang its home, and for 32 years, it faithfully served the stadium, spicing up the atmosphere when it calls.

#3 Fanfare
The good ol' chants of "referee kayu" and "we want goal!" didn't forget to reveal itself on that occasion. I recall when i was young, i had turned up for one or two S-League matches at Tampines Stadium, cheering on the Stags. It was all these chants which had gotten me mesmerised by local football. All the passion and undying love for the game shown by supporters really ate into me. Close to a decade later, i found myself at Kallang, and not only that, but a part of this voice to cheer the Lions on.

#4 Singapore Truly
As the national anthem plays majestically, you finally understand what it truly means to be a Singaporean. When the whole of the 55 000 strong crowd join in to sing this song schoolkids are all well familiar with, you know it is no ordinary song. Deep down inside, you feel your heart burning - burning with pride so overwhelming. Then, do you realise that this Grand Ol' Dame is the place where national pride is born. National Day, Seap Games of old, and the AFC. It never fails to evoke such feelings within the hearts of all Singaporeans. Never.

Of course, there are many other reasons which have been part of Kallang's success story. For that, i left my dad to do the explaination. Haha. The stamping of feet, "currypuff uncle", the Malaysia Cup days.... all a part of Singapore's sporting history. And if there's any sport in Singapore that can bond people together, thre's only football. Because no other sport here has such a rich history, no other sport here has the ability to get everyone talking, no other sport here has given the Kallang Roar and Wave much chance to show herself during competitions, and it is for this reason that the names of these 2 icons are such. Henceforth, we got to change our perpective of Singapore's soccer scene. No doubt Kallang saw a sell-out crowd of 55 000 that Wednesday, however what is 55 000 compared to the 4 000 000 in Singapore? It is not my motive to convince all 4 million to indulge in this sport, but rather, to see more Singaporeans taking pride in local soccer. Not to view it as a road leading to a dead end, but instead, one that opens up to a whole world of possibilities. Winning the AFC twice consecutively is a good signal on the Lions side.

How about you, Singapore?

Scenes just before the game(above)

45mins before kick-off

SS Assignment

Principal of being forward looking

Singapore-Australia Free Trade Agreement(SAFTA)

Signed on 17 February 2003, SAFTA will assist Australian and Singaporean businesses through enhanced market opportunities and provide investors with greater certainty through provisions on the protection and promotion of businesses. As part of SAFTA, customs, standards and e-commerce will also facilitate commerce between the two countries.

SAFTA certainly opens up a world of opportunities for trade between the 2 countries, and both parties will definitely benefit from this agreement. The protection of businesses is one incentive for Australian companies to invest in Singapore, and vice versa. Through this, companies are entitled to compensation should expropriation or other loss occur. This will give added confidence to potential investors and a sense of security. Moreover, taxes imposed on goods imported from either country will minimal, and hence this barrier of taxes will be gone, encouraging more investors to come over.

With Singapore aiming to compete in the league of the world's elite, SAFTA will undoubtedly give this vision a further boost. Globalisation will enable Singapore's economy to become more resilient, and we will be prepared to hold our own when competing against stronger competitiors.

SAFTA is another stepping stone in Singpore's mission to achieve high living standards for its population though globalisation. An increase in investments will result in more revenue for Singapore, and this amount can be translated into more development projects within Singapore, improving areas such as the living conditions of people, and ultimately higher living standards.

SAFTA enables Singapore to stay ahead of other expanding economies in the region, and prevent Singapore's economy from being threatened greatly.

Other free-trade agreements with nations such as the United States, will further aid Singapore's push for globalistion, and I feel that this can only mean good news for Singapore's economy.

Boyz II Men

Wheehah... after so many weeks, i feel its time to post something... haha...
After the recent ASS hike, where I had to accompany my juniors for 32km or so, i was pretty inspired to relive those memories of me as a bubbly junior, all eager to go for such hikes...
haha... so I've decided to entitile this post BOYZ II MEN... haha... here goes...

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; now... hehe...
i went carolling on christmas eve... you know those kind where you go from house to house singing christmas arols... yeah... it was fun!
we visited very few houses this year, as compared to last chritmas'
we went to 3 and we stayed over at a friend's place...
played bridge for some part of that night(or should it be morning)
luckily i learnt it in chiangrai, otherwise i would'nrt have participated...
oh yah... we reached our resting place at 12.20am
we started carolling at 7.20pm on the eve of christmas

the past few days have been really hectic for me and most of the scouts
4 sec3s went to hong kong, so the work of building the structures for CCA orientation day
we went back on the 27th for a few hopurs with the intention to help council build a frame for the campfire...
only got to know of that task on the morning of 27th itself!!!
so frustrating!
den when we reached, i persuaded junle to use the metal frames available at the parade square instead
he agreed. fullstop
darn
so we spent the time doing some planning for the 29th

28th December 2006
went to school at 8am
darn didnt know it was the start of the orientation camp
the cars totally filled the parade square lah
how to build structure!
so we resorted to plan B
pre-make the freames for the structure and piece it together
never tried it before
it worked out pretty alright
just that we experienced difficulties piecing the stuff together
then the rain spoilt it all
it rained non-stop from 1.30 all the way till 6plus 7?
we were all soaked lah
only the sec3s and 4s went out in the rain to continue building
and when the wind blew, it was all chilly
we were practically frozen, i mean it
we could barly walk or stand without shivering like nuts
we completed the stuff at 8pm
thn went with kunny for dinner at 85 and then shopping for orientation stuff
reached home at 9.30, and then started writing the script for the next day's performance
slept at 12 after getting my uniform ready and stuff
den one stupid mosquito kept bugging me
so much that i went to the sofa to sleep!!!
darn, so i guess i truly slept only at 1am

29th Dec
reached sch at 6.20am
touched up on the structure, got the exhibits out and stuff
alright, then the real thing started
in between, i dunno what happened but two disastrous things happened to me
darn
1st is... zhanyi told me to touch the gas cylinder lighting the flourescent lamp
so i did
it was icy cold
then next, my index finger juz touched the top of the lamp
darn... it was stinging HOT!!!
my skin turned a funny yellow, then heat and pain settled in
luckily we scouts are always prepared for disasters
we got this pail of water nearby, i soaked my left hand into it
damn, it felt juz a lil better
a huge blister formed, and it grew biger as the day progressed...
man...
the next was this jump over the leg of our structure
i dunno how my leg got caught by the pole
the next moment, it wsas down on the floor
well not realy down lah, but almost down...
my right thumb scraped the floor, and blood
deep red blood
darn...
after all that, it was taking down of the CCA booth structure and building of the campfire structure
the design was great after it was all done up
suspension bridge... haha
and to think we completed within one afternoon
the 2007 sec1s were pretty uncertain and were shaky when climbing over it
mainly because of the sway of the bridge
didnt have dinner
campfire started late, and ended late
oh yah... when dr boon went over the bridge, she was holding our hands so tightly lah, and seemed like she wouldn't let go of mine until i said kunny was in front to help her walk thru the bridge.
i was helping her up the steps you see
everything ended at 12.20
CCP said he wanted to treat us to pizzas during the campfire, then at the end, he said it was too late, so no delivery at that kind of time
so we we went to 85 to have bak chor mee
typical
reached homke at 2am... took a cab back

30th Dec
i came to school at 12.20 to help untie the structure, but there was none for me to untie
lol
it was already taken down by the rest who had came earlier
i thought of catching up with come sleep
only 3 sec3s came, inc me
then 2 sec4s and 1 sec2
finished everything at 3plus, then had complementary lunch proviuded by sc
took home another 3 packets for dinner.
kunny did the sam, and jl took 1
we were actually allowed 2-3 packets each
but add on what we ate over there and each person actually got an avrg of 4 packets
haha

i'm done with one english book, though it's really not official... what do i mean eh? to start off with, the book's not on the list. Secondly, it's entitled "Just One Look" by Harlan Coben. The list gave us 10, we took none. Funny, but as luck would have it, we couldn't find the books at the libraries... either it was missing, at some funny library towards the western end, on loan... but anyway, the story wasn't disappointing, just like any other Coben thrillers.

To sum it all up in my own words... a masterful piece of storytelling; sophisticated plot, full of surprises and twists to keep you searching for the truth, all these from the man himself - Harlan Coben

With every page turned, you are being brought deeper and deeper into the plot. the adrenaline levels surge, you feel the tension and emotions going through the characters... you experience that undying love, that uncertainty of betrayal knocking on the door... who could she trust in a time so critical, where a slight decision could make or break every hope still standing.... bearing the knowledge that her children are insecure, would she still dare to risk it all? evil is knocking, and her pertinaciousness is considered offensive to them...

every single lead was another lifeline to cling onto... Who was the real mastermind of the kidnap? would a fifteen year-old memory come back to haunt her in a way so sanguine, so cold-blooded?

Just One Look, an incredible tale finely plotted to the details...
A five-star book i would recommend to everyone who has got the time to read it. i completed the book in 3 days coz it was so engaging. the storyline took so many twists, it left me in total suspense throughout. Arrived at starting point (Boon Lay MRT)
Went to the toilet, took a group photo, left for the next checkpoint at Gul Ave

Checkpoint #1 - Road Junction at Gul Ave and Gul Way(some industrial area)
I was the first to navigate the group to the first checkpoint
btw the "cast" comprised of soon meng, jun liang, and ciyi
soonmeng and ciyi were both chatting all the way...
and also complaining of the unfairness between "short legs" and "long legs"
well, some would know what my hiking speed is like...
i was pretty hungry at that time... we didnt have dinner...
pity our stomachs...
alright... by he time we reached that chckpoint, it was already 9plus? i dunno
ciyi has the notes

Checkpoint #2 - Road junction at Jurong West, near jln bahar
we had actually agreed that someone else will do the navigation to checkpoint #2
but for some reason or another, junliang wanted me to continue
said it was easier for me to navigate since we were backtracking for quite some part of the distance
ok with that said, i lead the group as we headed off...
but this time without the use of map... hehe
the distance seemed much shorter than when we had first hiked on it
the coolness of the night was starting to set in
oh yah... there was the SAFTI camp along the way...
the one we went to for the sec3s post-exam outing
i got junliang to take over for the next half of the distance, in which we wouldn't be following the route we came from
we cut thruogh HDB flats and finally checkpoint 2, time 10.50pm

Checkpoint 3 - Bridge along Toh Guan Road
ciyi orienteered for this part of the hike
we got a great view of the moon along the way...
it was almost round, orangy, adn had a touch of warmth as we took a glimpse at it
we passed chinese garden mrt and had our knotting test at a nearby bus stop(11.10pm)
we finished the test at 11.40 and left hastily for our next target
reached there at 12.16am

Below are just brief summaries of the hike
whow it's gonna take pretty long to list every detail out you know...
so here goes

Checkpoint #4 - T-junction btwn jln haji alias and jln siantan
(near holland road, turn in at sixth ave)
Navigator - ME!
time arrived - 2.05am

Checkpoint #5 - ACS(I) Junior
Navigator - ME! + Ciyi
time arrived 3.45am
oh yah... saw a snake 2-3m long along bukit timah rd... didnt call the authorities though
and haha... junliang had abrasions so his walking style was pretty comical...

Checkpoint #6 - Trigonometrical station at some park near paya lebar rd and macpherson rd
Nacigator - Junliang
time arrived - 6.00am
darn this part's tricky... we have to find this marker on the floor(it's the trigo station)
talk about looking for a needle in a haystack
lol
we spent about half an hour at the checkpoint, managing to find something that resembled the trigo station

Checkpoint #7 - mosque at east coast road
Navigator - Junliang + me
time arrived - didn't complete(had to stop all hiking at 7.20)
all of us were already darn tired
my foot ached like nuts and it was so stiff!
my walking speed took a sharp decline... maybe due to the overly long break at the earlier checkpoint
we were indeed disappointed to discover that we had exceeded the stipulated time

but the hike's been a great learning point for me...
i remember that i kept asking the Lord to help us complete the hike
we didn't, but miracles come true with Him!
our senior told us not to include the last checkpoint in the hike for the distance we had covered was actually enough to pass the hike's requirements.
All praise to the Lord, the Almighty one!

Oh great... (in kWh)

ans: (no. of appliances x load factor x power rating x usage(hrs/day) x 30) / 1000

Ok, that was the very first question on the paper(i could have been more confident if i hadn't missed that out while studying though. Nevertheless, i got it correct(whewww!)

After the test, we took a short walk to Orchard. Junle wanted to get some suit for grad night, so we followed him to takashimaya. "We" refers to guodong(more affectionately known as guppy), peter, zzz-han-yi and yours truly. Damn, it was so posh! So much so that our uniforms looked very much out of place. We were a joke over there... zhanyi was having his usual nose problem while peter continued with his routine craps... junle left the place empty-handed... seemed that nothing interested him though... or maybe peter's persistent crapping hurried him off...

So next up, wisma atria... nothing interesting for US though... Through World of SPorts, Espirit, Isetan etc... we went... trying to kill time, without any items on minmd... haha btw we only had like 2 dollars with us(thanks to the combined hike the day before)... We left the place at around 12...

Next haunt, bishan Junction 8. this time without junle and zhanyi. raided Sembawang and royal sporting house. Peter and guppy trying to find new badminton rackets. Didnt get any in the end. AS ever, anti-climax... Went to scout HQ to crap with some "old" friend(actually he's the sales guy). He asked ciyi why he always sounded so dead when talking. ASked if he consumed ecstacy. lol. spent an hour and a half there doing nothing. oh ya, ciyi got some badges and certs for our troop.

at 2.30, we left for bishan library. pretty small. can't be compared to tampines librtary or woodlands though its new. got the liu yong book for the chinese assignment. haiz. darn... homework homework homework... what a hectic life

More songs for you to enjoy... :)

Scorpions - Wind of Change
Chicago - You're The Inspiration

the songs can be found in the playlist

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; It was FUN to me man!!! We did like 300+++ pumpings everyday(except for 4th).

First day was crap lah... so rushed, no time to do finish everything then kena pumped like mad. My campsite very lucky, near the water point(tap) so no need like last year walk so far get water. 1st night already got firedrill... kena woken up at 2= to assemble at all saint's church carpark(actually i was'nt sleeping at all)... Got pumped abt 250 for being late by 6mins or so coz received wrong info on where to assemble.. Went back to campsite only at 3.55 but didn't sleep after dat. went to talk with sec3s for the rest of the morning till we fell asleep halfway. But that sleep was juz 20mins for me. Couldn't get a wink.

2nd day got some funny PT session. did jumping jacks, and can't remember wad, and then got this crocodile crawl thing. Gotta crawl round the entire netball court perimeter. At 9.30 got backwoodsman cooking. So impromptu, onlyu got the menu before the cooking. Paired up with mr wong ciyi.. cooked some fantastic meal... didn't kena stomachache... went back to campsite for proper lunch cooked by us... Camp development all the way till evening from den... Freaking nightime rained like shit... darned cold lah... teeth kept chattering.. the lousy tent got flooded(so many holes) so went to kingfisher patrol kitchen shed to sleep. Could'nt get much of it coz of the cold. Me barefooted some more... Next morning felt sick...

3rd day... not feeling good... juz abt 40mins of sleep from night 1 & 2.. how to survive... completed pt... it would be fun of the seniors didn't make it look like torture lor.... we croc crawled in the mud and got ourselves all dirtied... some reluctant to do so fall out... some sick... i went through it.. pretty fun though... of course there was much more to pt then dat... after pt felt darned giddy went to field steps rest. ciyi didn't take part in pt coz he not feelin well lo... go 2k classroom sleep.. lucky could join my patrol for hike.. freaking fun lah! went around ubin hiking at my pace... juniors all complaining and laughing at me for being so gamchiong.. dun care them... last hour of hike went to play illegally with support of senior... went to explore some funny asrea not shown on the map... kept on walking further n furhter until the sky grew too dark and as i described it then, "the more we walk, the deeper into this shit we get". backtracked for 25 mins with a stray dog(small sized black one) which followed us for abt ten mins until my junior threw a stone at it.. wanted to stone him at that time.. could have brought the dog back to sch... took bumboat and coach back to campsite.. dinner was done by me.. v nice they said.. heehee..

4th day.. No PT!!!... after returning all equipments, we had lunch provided by seniors.. mini cornetto... veg rice... 1.5 litre zappel... ciyi wanted to have the lunch in the sun.. said no bird shit could reach us there... looks like he didn't get enough sunburn... thereafter it was sayonara...

btw that banner above was done by me... took me 2hrs to complete
